GLSC Merit Award 2025

Dr. Ute Eisele

In 1986, Dr. Ute Eisele founded the Deutsche Samstagsschule Houston together with two other mothers. She has led the school continuously since its inception with an exceptional amount of devotion and enthusiasm. In nearly forty years, the student body has grown from 70 to 270 children and 100 adults. Under her auspices the school not only offers outstanding language education but also functions as a cultural center by transmitting German literature, music, history, and German traditions in an age-appropriate manner.
Thanks to her personal unceasing dedication to the Deutsche Samstagsschule Houston, Dr. Eisele has attracted an outstanding body of qualified professionals who teach German to students at all levels from Kindergarten to adults seeking to pursue their university studies at a German university or to take up careers in Germany. Many instructors have taught for years and even decades at the DSS Houston, a tribute to Dr. Eisele’s inspiration and unflagging enthusiasm for the school’s mission.
Her warm and positive manner with which she meets every student, parent, and staff member projects her strong fundamental belief in the school’s important mission. Her credentials as a medical professional eminently qualified her to carefully guide the school through the difficult Covid 19 pandemic, reassuring parents and students that all precautions were meticulously observed to keep students and staff safe. The seamless continuation of classes adding a much-appreciated measure of normalcy during those turbulent years. Having grown from a small seed, nurtured carefully and persistently by Dr. Eisele for four decades, the Deutsche Samstagsschule Houston today enjoys the outstanding reputation as the premier institution for German language studies in Houston.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
